Rewards of Respectful Relationships

Respect to others is essential in life. It builds up a peaceful life. It is based on proper understanding of one another. When due respect is paid to others, life is filled with peace and happiness.

Human life is a social journey. As human beings, who are also called social animals, we make a journey towards our goal of heavenly life. Our relationships are built up by the respect we show to others - to elders, to youngsters and to God. Good relationship builds up a good community.

Building up a good relation - exemplary life

Faith in God and accepting others as the children of God builds up amicable relationship. The elders are exemplary and show good examples to the youngsters. The cordial relationship among people builds up a peaceful community or society.

The elders are considered to be wise and exemplary.

The elderly people should lead the youngsters patiently advising them the right path of life. The youngsters also should pay heed to the elders with due respect. St. James writes in his letter, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom."

Good relationship builds up a happy life

Happy life is the ultimate goal of everyone. Who does not want to be happy? Every human being, from the toddler to the tottering old, wants to be happy in life. Happiness is enhanced by relationship. When there is friction in a relationship or when there is no due respect for one another, life becomes a hell. All types of vices enter into the individuals as well as the society by the loss of amicable relationship.

Why is there friction in a family?

The modern society is torn in relationship. Families are shattered and children are helpless. Faith is the basis of respect. When a person does not trust or understands other members of a family or community, the due respect is not given. Pride built on the Ego dominates and there is no place for respect. Such loss of trust or faith leads to frictions and loss of peace.

One cannot feel the presence of God in a disrespectful place

When there is understanding and accepting one another with respect, God lives with them and that place becomes a heaven on the earth. The Book of Malachi describes how to respect elders. "A son honors his father and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says the Lord Almighty." (Malachi 1:6)

St. Paul writes to the Romans, "Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves." God resides in such a place and makes it peaceful.

Respect rewards relationships. It brings heaven to this earth.
